In the past I'd say five to seven years I've gotten into metal music heavier than I've ever been. When I was younger I was way more into the grunge scene. Guys like Stone Temple Pilots, Bush, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, and Nine Inch Nails. I was always into guys like Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer, but I just really immersed myself in the metal world heavily because I wanted to dive deeper into the crazy spiral that is heavy metal. So this list is a list of groups that I have either discovered recently in the past year, or guys that I've discovered in the past five years or so that I feel are showing great promise, and that are just plain bad-ass. Some of them have been around for a while, and some not so long, so here they are.
- Lamb of God -
- Shadows Fall -
- Mastodon -
- Devildriver -
- Daath -
- Between the Buried & Me -
- The Black Dahlia Murder -
- Trivium -
- Baroness -
- The Sword -
Now here are just ten of the bands that I have gotten into lately. There are many more but these are the ones that I'm really getting a good feeling from. Lamb of God has so much talent in it that I know they will be one of the forefronts of the metal community. Mastodon brings a lot of classic elements to this new age metal scene that I really respect them. Bran Dailor is just amazing on the drums. Matt heafy from Trivium is such a great guitar play. He has accomplished so much at such a young age. Another band that I got in to with their new release is The Sword. I've known about these guys for a while but really neglected getting into them because they are from Austin, and I'm really not heavy into the alternative scene that is so prominent here in Austin. But when I got their new one I was greatly surprised. I love their old school Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, feel but with a heavier crunch to it. They groove really well and that's what I like. So I definitely recommend The Sword's new one Warp Riders. So until next time stay hard, stay heavy.
